Skiing the High Desert
Things went smoothly with HR and the Visa-related paperwork with our friends from the international office on Monday and my next meeting at Cal Poly wasn't until Thursday scince we arrived during spring break. Also, the weather forecast called for nice conditions with a storm moving in later in the week. Thus, we made the decsion that "now" is the best time to go skiing.
The closest skiiing to San Luis Obispo with approx. 3 hours of driving are China Peak Ski Resort (which we saved for a day trip...) and Alta Sierra (which is only open on the weekends).
Thus, we decided to do a road trip to Souther California which brought us to Mountain High after 4 hours of driving (wa good road trip anyway...)
Mountain High was nice for a day, but by 3pm we had pretty much exhausted all the options so for the second day we decided to drive further.
Still, the snow was perfect and the next day we drove another hour through the High Desert between San Bernadino and Joshua Tree National Park. As mentioned, a beautiful drive by itself.
Bear Mountain was our pick for the second day of skiiing.
Fun fact: the lift on the left side is the one which goes highest of all lift ins California.
That's a warning sign...
Snow was great
Another good warning sign for those who didn't pay attention in biology class...
Nice snow for most of the day, but around 3pm we decided to head back.
The ski-resort is part of the San Bernadino National Forest.
Time to say goodbye to the bear after a day of skiing
