Hiking Smugglers Cave and Gaviota State Park

Those are some pictures from the previous weekend.

With a winterstorm-warning in effect for Sequioa National Park and Boat trips to the channel islands being cancelled due to rough sea we knew that we would do something closer to San Luis Obispo.

Lucily the weather was only rainy on Saturday so we drove towards Avila Beach.

We hiked between there an Pismo Beach.

This is the actual Smugglers (or Pirates) Cove

a titel suppodesly earned during the prohibiton.

Nowaday nice views and scenerey.

This is by they way how it lookd in better weather.

This picture is 3 days later when Jan was visiting me from Stanford.

Sunday we drove down to Gaviota State Park which is an hour south towards Santa Barbara.

We hiked to the wind caves which received their name due to erosio by wind.

Spectacular views

and great hiking.

Our second hike in the park

started just off from Highway 101

towards the hot spring

in Gaviota State Park

While the other hike was a little more demanding

this one was simpler and only about a mile in.

with the natural hot spring (and no cover charge).

which we had more or less for ourselves.

After the hiking we did a quick stop in Solvang

where the movie sidesways was made (which some may remember) and the city is what we call in German "Kitscht" at its best with everything looking what someone thinks Danmark might have looked like well over a centry ago. But: decent vines!
